Cally Park – A Digital Home for a Local Community

Website Design & Development for Friends of Caledonian Park

Some projects start with a commercial brief.
This one started with a community.

Caledonian Park is an important part of local life in Islington — a place shaped not only by its history, but by the people who use, protect and support it every day.

When we started working with Friends of Caledonian Park, the goal wasn’t simply to build a new website. It was to understand what the group needed from its digital presence and create something they could confidently manage themselves for years to come.

And as a local community project, Digimocha delivered the project on a voluntary basis.

First, We Listened

Rather than jumping straight into design, we spent approximately three months working alongside the Friends of Caledonian Park team, understanding how they worked and what they needed from the website.

The challenge was to create something that could bring together information about the park, its community, activities and updates without becoming complicated to maintain.

Just as importantly, the website needed to belong to them — not to the agency that built it.

From a Blank Page to a Brand-New Website

With those needs in mind, we designed and developed a completely new website from the ground up.

We chose WordPress as the foundation, providing the flexibility the project needed while keeping day-to-day content management straightforward for the Friends group.

The visual direction was developed specifically around Caledonian Park’s character and surroundings. Typography, imagery, layout and the overall visual language were selected to create a website that feels connected to the park rather than like a generic community template.

The result was a clean, accessible and easy-to-navigate digital home for the park community.

Designed to Be Handed Over

For us, one of the most important parts of the project came after development.

We didn’t want Friends of Caledonian Park to depend on a developer every time they wanted to make a simple change.

The WordPress setup was therefore structured so the team could update content, publish information and manage the website themselves without needing technical expertise.

Once development was complete, we handed over a website that was not only ready to use, but ready for the community to take ownership of.

A Volunteer Project with a Local Purpose

Digimocha is based in Islington, and Caledonian Park is part of the community around us.

That’s why we chose to contribute our strategy, design and development time voluntarily to the project.

For us, digital work isn’t always about generating a commercial return. Sometimes good digital work simply means using the skills you have to help something valuable in your local community work better.

Today, CallyPark.com gives Friends of Caledonian Park an independent digital platform they can continue to manage and develop as the community grows.

Built with the community. Designed for the community. Handed back to the community.
